Red, White, and Blue

Happy July 4th! It is Independence Day in the good ol’ U. S. of A! I hope you are having a great July 4th and were able to celebrate over the weekend!

As I wrote in my blog, Labor Day: How Marketing Misses the Mark, “this federal holiday is not about a sale or a shopping spree. As a marketer, you have to be able to read the room and strike the balance between presenting the wonderful offerings of your company and not ignoring the true significance, intelligence and excellence of the hard-working American people.”

So, let’s take a moment to explore the significance behind our beautiful red, white, and blue.

Now, you may not know that I am both the most patriotic person you will ever meet and I am deeply interested in color theory. Seeing the multidimensional representation of a color broken down by hue, value, and chroma is a joy of mine, one I will break down in detail in a separate blog post.

The red in our flag is called Old Glory Red and is a color with a rich history. Throughout history, red has been used to represent war, passion, intensity, and danger. When it comes to our flag, Old Glory Red represents valor. White represents purity. The blue in our flag is called Old Glory blue and signifies justice and perseverance. Millions have dedicated their lives and sacrificed their lives to uphold our unalienable rights, among them life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

I won’t keep you too long from the celebrations. Practice safe fireworks use! Enjoy the freedoms our forefathers fought and died for and never forget the meaning of our flag.
